There are some particularly pleasing environments, such as the forested Subconscious Domain (Summer) or Old Miltia, lit by a remarkable sunset.

Episode II doesn’t do anything to “push the envelope” on graphics, but it does look beautiful, as do most games developed late in a console’s lifetime. In today’s videogame market, nothing seems to be more important than graphics. The specific changes from I to II will be discussed throughout the review.Īs Sweet and Seductive As a Deal With the Devil! The change was, for most gamers, not at all desired, but in many regards, the game flows smoothly in this transition. Is this good? Is this bad? Many people took it to be a bad thing, but I see it as beyond good and evil it simply is as it is. Many of the people that worked on Episode I are gone - and new artists, musicians, scenario writers, and programmers have come to give a fresh perspective. For anyone playing this game that has also played Episode I (that should be about 99% of the Episode II gamers), the changes made from the previous game to this game come as a shock. Like Der Wille Zur Macht (The Will To Power), this title is a direct allusion to a work of the same name by 19th century German philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (also spelled “Nietzche”).īut while we’re on the idea of “beyond good and evil,” that is, neutral, amoral, etc., let us note an unintentional connection between the game’s name and the game itself.

Tetsuya Takahashi, along with the old and new members of the Monolith Software staff, continued with the Xenosaga series by releasing Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits Von Gut und Boese (Beyond Good and Evil). If you are interested in the series but have not yet played the first game, consider doing so before reading this review. ONLY try EE Cyclerate at -1 or -2 as a last resort.Editor’s Note: Due to the nature of this game as a direct sequel, this review contains spoilers for Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht, as well as a few minor spoilers for this, the second Episode. I suspect you are using a high resolution though, decrease it slightly, use all the speed hacks except CDVD and EE Cyclerate, use EE skipping at +1 or +2 and see if it gives better FPS. Keep in mind MTVU hack can have positive or negative results on FPS depending on the game, you should test it and see. If you see the assertion error that makes the crash, it will tell you to close the emulator but you should choose no and it will keep the emulator running, just enable MTVU and refuse the error message. based distros too, so you are not the only one affected.

Well that's strange, I didn't have any stability issues with PCSX2 except the Pango update and the GCC compiler problem, this one prevented me from using the SuperVU recompiler for True Crime NYC, I deleted the game rom immediately because it's unplayable without this option, this problem affected all the Arch. The rest of the system seems to run fine.

I am running this on an arch linux install with GNOME X11 and the nvidia proprietary drivers. Setting vsync to adaptive means it doesn't stop tearing at all. If I turn it on, tearing is for the most part gone, but the game crawls if a large object enters the battlefield, like an AWGS or large enemy coming in from offscreen, the music speed fluctuates and the framerate does the same.

If I turn it off, it runs full speed smoothly 99% of the time, but I get obvious tearing. Second issue, and I doubt there's a fix for this, is vsync slowdown. It happens with objects in the background too but it's less noticeable there. You can see the edge of the texture drawing outside the border of the face, which cuts through it. The faces in the beginning of the game are particularly bad. First, the emulator likes to color outside the lines. When configuring pcsx2 for xenosaga I on a ryzen 3600/nvidia gtx 1660 rig, I have a few problems I haven't been able to work out.
